Anthropocentric vs Ecocentric – exploring shifts and challenges in our mahi

This panel was part of the Beyond Academic session at the 2022 International Participatory Design Conference.

Co-Director Tangata Tiriti, Dr Penny Hagen, of the Co-Design Lab joined Jan-Christophe Zoels (Head of the MA design programs at the University Lucerne, School of Art and Design, Switzerland), Marion Lean (Co-Design Coach at Future Farming, Department for Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs, UK) and session chair Daria Loi (Vice President and Head of UX at Fishtail).

This session explored how practitioners tackle complex problems, emphasizing how they recover from mistakes, missteps, and mishaps – both big and small.

For us at the Co-design Lab, that has included shifting from a focus on co-design methods, process and tools, to exploring Te Tiriti-led practice and tackling foundations of what is needed to enable equity and Te Tiriti-based practice in the public sector.
