Te Taiwhanga Rangatahi explores high-value green career pathways with young minds from south Auckland

Te Taiwhanga Rangatahi (TTR), our youth design lab, are learning and practising communication, collaboration and creative problem-solving for issues facing south Auckland youth.

Last weekend, TTR hosted ten south Auckland high school rangatahi to explore, discuss, prototype and learn about:

  • high-value green career pathways for rangatahi;

  • how rangatahi can attach themselves to these pathways; and

  • what challenges may arise for rangatahi that wish to attach themselves to these pathways.

The sessions were hosted by TTR’s Junior Designers who created a comfortable space for the participating young people from south Auckland to feel welcomed, relaxed and comfortable sharing their thoughts openly.

 Many themes were explored, including the current state of school education for preparing young people for green careers in the future, opportunities to make a difference in education to take advantage of high-value green pathways and practical changes that can take place.

 The energetic day ended with organisers and participants having some kai together. The young participants were keen to participate in further conversations to make changes and concluded that if they put their minds together they can influence the education system to be more suited for their future needs.
