Healthy Families South Auckland in 2022
Growing and sharing its kaupapa will be the focus in 2022 for the Healthy Families South Auckland team at The Southern Initiative.
Healthy Families South Auckland manager Winnie Hauraki says the team is working on implementing a new Kaupapa Māori framework into current and future initiatives.
“We’re doing this so that our kaupapa drives our mahi towards achieving the greatest impact in terms of whānau Māori aspirations,” says Winnie.
This will be done by growing the team's knowledge and capability through learning opportunities via current Kaupapa Māori frameworks, as well as building meaningful relationships and connections with Māori roopu.
“It is an important part of our team's capability this year as we look to build on the years of knowledge and experience we have already accrued through the six conditions of systems change.”
Supporting community places
Healthy Families South Auckland is building upon its Healthy Environment Approach initiative by supporting the design of interconnected community hubs which will deliver place based interventions which will increase the proportion of whānau Māori using the Council Group’s services
Initial testing has already begun alongside the staff at Te Matariki Clendon Community Centre, Library and Māori Outcomes teams.
The aim is to look at what social, cultural, environmental and economic outcomes could be achieved, for both community and Council, in order to support community well-being and resilience.
Growing the Food Hub
Healthy Families South Auckland continues to support the team at the Papatoetoe Food Hub as they expand to include experiential learning programmes with communities to gain more food resilience knowledge and skills.
These programmes will build on from the Whenua to Whenua initiative, which includes an onsite composting and recycle station designed to minimise food and other waste, and that is being used as an educational tool for the local community on how to create similar models at home.
The Food Hub initiative is proving to be a popular concept for a number of community organisations across the rohe so we are working with these groups to grow Food Hub initiatives across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Implementing The Good Food Road Map
Healthy Families South Auckland is working with South Auckland local boards and wide-ranging community organisations to prototype and adapt local versions of The Good Food Road Map.
Each community is supported to design a locally-relevant Good Food Road Map that is made for the unique contexts and strengths of their communities, and guides them towards achieving food security and sovereignty for all.
